Rod wave and $not return, AMA LOU DROPS NEW EP, AND MORE!

by Jack Shapiro

Hey!

While it’s not the most explosive week for new music, it’s safe to say everyone had plenty going on. With that said, I hope everyone had a relaxing Thanksgiving. There’s something about the indescribable feeling of kicking back on the couch, getting cozy, and watching football with family.

Whether it’s because of the holiday, or the industry is still dealing with the hangover of the major summer/fall releases (Drake, Adele, Kanye, Taylor Swift), it was definitely a quiet week. But, there still were some gems, and I would like to share them with you!

AT LEAST WE HAVE THIS EP by Ama Lou – I’m a big Ama fan. It’d been nearly two years since she’d dropped music when she came back with “Trust Nobody” a little under a month ago. No album yet, but as the name suggests, AT LEAST WE HAVE THIS. And it doesn’t disappoint. She usually tends to gravitate towards two styles (at least in the music she’s released up until this point). A slower, heart-heart felt R&B, or a chaotically-sung drill-R&B fusion banger. She does a mix of both on the four-song EP, and it’s pretty awesome. Definitely check it out. Other than this EP, a good starting point is the song”NORTHSIDE”. She does her thing over a Frank Dukes and Murder Beatz instrumental. And she said her is almost finished! Woohoo!

“By Your Side” by Rod Wave – Rod Wave seems to be starting a new era of music after putting the SoulFly era to rest after the release of its deluxe version in August. The brand new song interpolates “Hey There Delilah” by The Plain White T’s which is equally as funny as it is fire. Rod Wave is a really unique artist to me. His voice is so big and grand but also really soft at the same time. Excited for this new era.

“04” by Redveil – Redveil is another artist who just kicked off a new era. The track dropped Tuesday, and is another show of the Maryland rappers’ skill and massive potential. The title of the song is for the year he was born. HE’S 17! He’s got two projects under his belt, a co-sign from Tyler, The Creator, and apparently another project on the way. The single is classic Redveil though, introspective lyrics over a soul sample driven beat

“Go” by $not – First single from his upcoming ‘Ethereal’ album. This is him expanding even further from the chill, laid-back sound he was known for in his days in the underground scene. ‘Ethereal’ is definitely a project to be on the look-out for, and will feature big names like A$AP Rocky, Kevin Abstract, Juicy J, and Trippie Redd. Check out the full track-list here.

“2gether” by Mura Masa – Whether you know him as a producer or artist, he’s undeniably talented. He belts to be together with a love interest, and it’s a journey. The song’s tail end features a bouncing EDM drop that comes out of nowhere. Exciting listen!

“Shame” by midwxst – midwxst doesn’t want to take his foot off the gas. The Indiana-raised artist  is back already less than two months removed from his BACK IN ACTION which released back in October. Another trap-infused hyperpop banger from him, give it a listen.
