New Music Friday

New Music Friday: Releases From AG Club, Brakence, Tom The Mailman and More

by Jack Shapiro

Happy Friday!

Third Friday of 2022! One week from now we’ll only be a couple of days away from February. Crazy how time flies like that.

The first week of 2021 brought us some HUGE albums. Crazy enough, Gunna outsold The Weeknd! Great for Gunna, and I don’t think the is dying for another number one. BIGBABYGUCCI dropped an amazing album as well (gonna link it here. Any hip-hop fans should check it out.) Week two was great, too. Cordae and FKA Twigs both dropped great projects and tapped into sides of their music we hadn’t seen much of before. JID and Joey Bada$$ came back with new singles as well.

Now for this week, we have another collection of great tracks, especially from up-and-coming artists. Let’s go:

“Mr. Put It On” by AG Club – Yesssss. If you’re not familiar with AG Club, change that. I’m going to be honest, I’m not sure how many members they have exactly but their main two guys are vocalists Jody Fontaine and Baby Boy (Jody Fontaine mainly raps and Baby Boy mainly sings/croons, although they can both switch it up). They bring an energy to music that feels special. Their music is just, fun. And it’s conveyed in both the lyrics and production. They talk about the stuff they like. It’s cool. But this is seemingly the first single of their new era, and just as fun and sporadic as you would think. If you are a new fan check out Fuck Your Expectations Pt. 1 & 2 as well. If you’re a fan of Odd Future or the A$AP Mob you’ll likely enjoy!

“cbd” by brakence – Brakence dropped the single of his album rollout, rumored to be titled “bloom2death”. It’s a really interesting change of pace. The chorus is very poppy and groovy, while the hook takes it back to brakence’s signature almost stumbly beat and flow to match. Similar to most of his other work, this one’s entirely produced by him as well!

“Brown Eyes And Backwoods” by Tom The Mailman – Another artist who’s on the second single of his rollout. And this one very different from the last. This one’s a guitar ballad, which I don’t think is something we’ve seen from him up until this point. I think this is my favorite drop of the week! He’s got vocal chops and a ton of personality in his voice. Like I said before, this song is a lot different from a banger like his last single, NOTHINGTOLOSE, which was a much more high-key song. It’s really cool to see him experimenting with a lot of different sounds. This one was more acoustic, and the last was a hard-rock/rap song with even some hyperpop influence as well.

“Flossin” by Internet Money (featuring NBA Youngboy) – Highly-anticipated track, and was teased on the internet a bunch. It’s pretty good! Very catchy.

“Cold December” by Rod Wave – Rod Wave is back with another single. He’s got so much personality in his voice. He expands his vocal range more than I’ve seen on other tracks as well, so props to him for the improvement. I’m a big fan of both of these singles, definitely check them out if you’re a fan of him, or give it a shot if you’re not, it’s a great song!

“Put On Repeat” by Sabrina Claudio album – This song is awesome. Any R&B or pop fans check it out! The vocal layering and manipulations are sick!

“I Need Bank” by Guapdad 4000 – This beat is so sick. Guapdad always picks super creative instrumentals.

That’s it for today! Other drops from the week will be included in the playlist.

Have a good one!
