New Music Friday: Roddy Ricch Drops ALBUM, FKA TWIGS & THE WEEKND TEAM UP + MORE

by Jack Shapiro

Hey! Welcome back for another weekly New Music Friday roundup. Another week, some more songs, lots of good drops. As the world around us continues to twist and turn, we will always have our music. Let’s get into it:

Live Life Fast by Roddy Ricch – Roddy Ricch comes back after two years to drop his sophomore album. Off first listen, he maintains his core sound but presents it in a grander way. Lush intros, outros, and transitions throughout. 18 tracks total, with features from Future, Kodak Black, 21 Savage, Takeoff, Jamie Foxx, Ty Dolla $ign, Alex Isley, Fivio Foreign, Lil Baby, and Gunna.

“Tears In The Club” by FKA Twigs (featuring The Weeknd) – Classic sad banger. Twig’s voice always pops out, it sounds opera-like to me and a very cool pairing on a hip-hop beat. Also, I enjoyed the hyperpop influence on the vocals on the tail-end of the track. The Weeknd fits into the song perfectly as well. Would like to mention as well, he’s been everywhere lately. He had the song with Post Malone recently, then the song with ROSALIA, and he had a drop with the late Aaliyah today too. Guess the albums coming soon!

“Rent Free/By Any Means” by 6lack: 6lack is back! Two songs is nice too. Both songs are great and serve a good purpose. The first is a danceable track and more uptempo than most of his discography. And the second is a more rap heavy song, just to remind you he can still rap (he actually got his start as a battle rapper, as he says on his episode of Kenny Beats’ The Cave, which I’m going to link because it’s dope and you should watch it.)

“The Best Part Of Life” by SAINt JHN: JHN drops off a single just off his In Case We Both Die Young tour. His music always makes you feel like you’re in the slow-motion scene of a movie, like riding into the sunset. Loved the guitar that comes in on the backend of the song too. And his voice always sounds larger than life. Excited for whatever he’s got coming up!

“Blaming Myself” by Weiland: VICES (his upcoming album) is going to be game-changing. One: respect to him for completely changing up his sound. Two: damn this song is a beauty. Three: Mike Dean is amazing, Fish is amazing, and are working to produce the whole album? My ears are not ready.

“M&M” by Rvssian (with Future featuring Lil Baby): This song is awesome. Rvssian is a great producer who I feel like he doesn’t get enough appreciation in the rap scene, at least from the fans. The EDM-like synths go nuts. Lil Baby’s hook is super catchy, and Future delivers an awesome verse.

BACK IN ACTION 2.0 EP by midwxst: The up and comer adds four new tracks to the BACK IN ACTION EP he dropped back in September. It has a similar blend of hyperpop and trap. Worth a listen!

RnB? EP by Tierra Whack: Weekly Tierra Whack EP. What genre is it? RnB? (bad pun sorry). But this rollout is really creative. Each genre she’s stepped into she’s found a way to make it unique to her, and that’s really cool. Again, very interested to see where she goes from here.

“Bankroll Fresh” by BIGBABYGUCCI: BIGBABYGUCCI over a drill beat was both unexpected and awesome. Check it out, it’s a banger.

“No Kure” by whiterosemoxie: This song was really enjoyable. I’m having a hard time finding how to describe it. I think sporadic is the best word I can come up with. Recommend this one, a great alternative hip-hop track.

Hope everyone’s healthy, try to hang in there. Have a good one!
