The Weeknd Reveals the Release Date and Cover for 'Dawn FM'

by Jack Shapiro

The Weeknd announced his new album Dawn FM is dropping this Friday, January 7th! This comes after a series of cryptic tweets, hinting something was on the horizon. It was something to get excited about, but it’s rare that artists actually drop so soon after, especially for an artist at The Weeknd’s level. But nonetheless, here we are. He revealed the cover as well, which you can see below:

He revealed the release date in addition to features in the official trailer, which you can find at the bottom of this article. Features include Quincy Jones, Tyler, The Creator, Lil Wayne, Oneohtrix Point Never, and iconic actor Jim Carrey.

It’ll be interesting to see in what form these features take place. I say this for two reasons. One, it’s an awesome feature list. Two, given the “FM” in the name it’s safe to assume it’s a radio-centric theme. So will they all be entirely musical offerings? I’d imagine we won’t hear Jim Carrey singing, but maybe we’ll see the others contribute in some form other than music.

The thought of The Weeknd on a Tyler, The Creator instrumental seems really awesome. And Quincy Jones and Lil Wayne are both legends in their own regards. The Oneohtrix feature suggests a lot of the vintage-sounding synths that made After Hours so great. For those who are not familiar, Oneohtrix Point Never is an electronic producer who lent a hand on a number of the tracks on After Hours. Regardless of how it all turns out, I’m sure the outcome will be entertaining!

The album comes a few months rest of the project’s lead single “Take My Breath”, which dropped back in early August. The Weeknd has been around in the mainstream as of late though. He’s had a handful of features, including the hook on Kanye West DONDA‘s lead single ‘Hurricane’. He’s also been a part of songs with Post Malone, Rosalía, FKA Twigs, Swedish House Mafia, and a track with the late Aaliyah.

That’s all the information on the album right now! Let’s see how the After Hours follow-up turns out. Again, check out the trailer for the album just below, and you can listen to ‘Take My Breath’ with the links just below that.

Have a good one!
