Tierra Whack New Ep 'RAP?' dropping Dec. 2

by Jack Shapiro

Tierra Whack pegs me as an artist who doesn’t want to be boxed in. I might be wrongfully assuming the intentions of the new music she announced, dropping December 2nd, but I think it lends to this idea. She’s labeled a rap/hip-hop artist, but is that what she’s going for?

Philadelphia artist Whack announced her new EP ‘Rap?’ dropping this Thursday, December 2nd. The extended play also comes with the addition of a collaboration line with Vans that drops the next day. The line features t-shirts, vests, chinos, boots, socks, and hats. You can see the line here. Very bright and colorful, on-brand for Whack.

Whack has always been an artist who works outside of the norms. She had originally made noise in the music with the release of the 2018 album ‘Whack World’. The album stood out for being 15 minutes, with a full 15 tracks. The music of course was great as well, with catchy hooks, colorful production, and on-point bars. She didn’t stop here though, the album was accompanied by a 15-minute music video. Whack’s refreshing take and creativity managed her a Grammy nod for best music video as well.

She’s stayed somewhat quiet since. She’s had a partnership with Adobe for the Creative Cloud, dropped a few loosie singles, and rapped an outstanding verse on Lil Yachty’s Lil Boat 3 album. It’s reminded fans of both Whack’s creativity and technical skill as an artist, but this is her first longer-form output since the 2018 effort.

Regardless of how the EP ends up sounding, based on her output so far it’s safe to say a great amount of time and out-of-the-box thinking has been put into it.

Have a good one!
